In setting the records straight, DSS in its earlier press release dated 9th January 2026 and made public on its official website dss.gov.ng, confirmed Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi as an active staff. It further clarified that Onyewuenyi who was accused of forcefully abducting and marrying one Walida Ibrahim, is currently being investigated and assured to make public, the outcome of its investigation. 

The joint investigative process involving the family of Walida including her biological father, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and three (3) Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) comprising represtatives from Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA), Abuja Chapter, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Abuja Chapter, Muslim Lawyers and Association of Nigeria (MULAN), Abuja Chapter as well as a member of Peace Building Agency of Nigeria, Abuja is almost completed. This joint investigation team which was formed by this Service to ensure transparency has met four times between 21st of January and 10th of February, 2026, and a final meeting has been jointly fixed for 19th February 2026 to determine the lawful cause of action within the Nigerian Laws. 

Meanwhile, WALIDA whom evidence from National Population Commission has shown was born on 7th February, 2004 (22 years of age), has opted to remain in Service protective custody for now, claiming that she ran away from home for personal reasons which can not be made public because investigations have not ended.
