The Director General of the State Security Service, Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi was born on 23rd February, 1956, in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State. He received early education at Danbatta Secondary School also in Kano State from where he proceeded to the College of Advanced Studies, Kano. His passion for knowledge led him to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained a degree in Political Science in 1981.
As a young officer, his sterling performance and dedication to duty stood him out. Consequently, he was nominated to receive further trainings in intelligence processing and analysis and other aspects of counterintelligence in the United Kingdom.
Vast in many fields of covert actions and Alternative Dispute Resolution, his core competences include; Conflict management, Risk and Vulnerability assessment, Human Resource management, Investigation and Protective operations. He is an alumnus of the prestigious National Defence College where he was bestowed a Fellow of the War College (fwc) in 2007.
Mr. Bichi has made a steady and enviable career in the SSS where he rose to the highest rank and won accolades for his meritorious services. He served variously in different capacities including as the State Director of Security (SDS) in Jigawa, Niger, Sokoto and Abia States. He also served as a Director in all the National Headquarter Directorates namely; Security Enforcement, Operations, Intelligence, Inspectorate, Administration and Finance, National Assembly Liaison and the State Services Academy, Lagos, one of the training institutions of the Service.
Mr. Bichi is, no doubt, an Intelligence Officer of great excellence. Known for his disposition to mentor young and upcoming officers, the DGSS is astute, modest and has a mien that attracts. He is an urbane man and brings his wealth of experience to bear on his job. This constantly fuels his passion for creativity and innovation. Predictably, this has led to several reforms since his assumption of office as the DGSS.
The DGSS, Mr. Y. M. Bichi is married and blessed with children and grandchildren.
